Assistance from sponsors and partners has made it possible to acquire works from the fields of installation art, photography and video since the opening of the museum. For the first time, the entire collection can now be seen in a major presentation.

In the Contemporary Art Collection the dominant artistic attitude is factual, objective and conceptual. The starting point is the work of the artist couple Bernd (1931-2007) and Hilla (1934-2015) Becher. Their photo groups, “Half-Timbered Houses in the Siegerland”, “Industrial Landscapes” and “Coal Mine Tipples/Winding Towers” represent vital cornerstones. Besides the Bechers' documentary practice, the collection includes other influential positions of serial and project-related photography.
